Rooted in the Native Hawaiian proverb "He Aliʻi ka ʻĀina, He Kauā ke Kanaka" (The Land is Chief, Man is its Steward), ʻĀina University provides experiential education that reconnects individuals to ʻāina and culture while restoring reciprocal relationships through the practice of ancestral foodways.

In society today, the highest level of formal education is at the collegiate level. Hence, ʻĀina University is its chosen name because we believe that the ʻāina imparts ʻike at its highest level to kānaka.
